Crowborough tip opens 9am to 5pm on weekdays and 9am to 1pm at weekends, all year. You must book a slot. Christmas hours, winter times at nearby tips, and the rules.

Crowborough’s household waste recycling site, the tip on Farningham Road, is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. Those hours do not change with the seasons. You must book a slot before you go.

Wealden Industrial Estate, Farningham Road, Crowborough TN6 2JR. Pedestrians and cyclists use a separate pedestrian entrance, and they need a booking too.

The county’s page for Crowborough carries no summer or winter range. The other three tips in Wealden do: they publish summer hours from 1 April to 30 September and shorter winter hours from 1 October to 31 March.

Christmas and New Year

The county posts festive hours on each site page as “special dates”, and it had not posted 2026’s when we checked. Last year’s, from the Crowborough page as archived in November 2025:

This year the bank holidays are Friday 25 December, Monday 28 December (the substitute for Boxing Day) and Friday 1 January 2027. We will add the county’s 2026 hours when it publishes them.

Real Christmas trees are accepted at the Crowborough site. Wealden also says you can cut a tree up and put it in your garden waste bin.

The other tips near Crowborough this winter

From 1 October to 31 March, according to the county’s site pages:

So on a winter Saturday afternoon, Maresfield and Heathfield are the only two open, until 4pm. Last Christmas all three kept the same pattern as Crowborough: closed on 25 and 26 December and 1 January, open 8am to 1pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Booking

Booking became compulsory at every East Sussex tip on 24 November 2025. From the county’s booking and site rules:

  • book online, or call 0345 60 80 194 (Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5pm, Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm)
  • slots open two weeks ahead, and you can book on the day if one is free
  • most slots are 30 minutes and you can arrive any time within yours
  • each booking covers one visit, with no limit on how many you make
  • bring the booking confirmation and proof you live in East Sussex, such as a photocard driving licence or this year’s council tax bill
  • you need a booking to visit the reuse shop too; a tip booking covers both
  • cancel if you cannot go: the county says it may restrict people who repeatedly book and do not turn up

Vans, trailers and charges

  • vans only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
  • a 2 metre height limit and trailers up to 1.8 metres long
  • the site is free for East Sussex residents
  • rubble, soil and plasterboard: up to two 50-litre bags a week free, then a charge per extra bag or sheet
